Who We Are


  • Partnership - community-based participatory prevention partnership, Colorado Science Education Partnership (CSEP) made up of elementary school educators, university scientists, staff and students, science museums, and the community


  • Leadership - Francoise J. Smith, an international known scientist, is the program director and Arthur Campfield, an international obesity expert, is the principal investigator


  • Goals - to reduce and, eventually, to prevent obesity and type 2 diabetes through enrichment of grade 2-6 science and math education, emphasizing improved nutrition and enhanced physical activity


  • Major Approach - using scientists in the classroom, including research scientists, chefs, dietitians, nurses, medical technologists, physicians, exercise physiologists, health science professionals and undergraduate and graduate students, who interact with the children and teachers
